Day 1: Moving Past Tradition and Resistance
Reflection
The introduction of the Gospel to the Gentiles through Cornelius and Peter illustrates a massive shift in God’s plan. Peter, a devout Jew, struggled profoundly with this change because of his heritage and tradition. When God commanded him in a trance to "Kill and eat" the previously unclean animals, Peter refused God three times. This resistance was based on deeply ingrained teachings that certain things were "common or unclean". The sermon highlights that we must examine the traditions or habits that hold us back from fully experiencing new paths God is calling us to explore. Peter’s reluctance almost caused the spread of the Gospel to the Gentiles to be delayed, demonstrating how personal resistance can hinder divine action. In contrast, Cornelius, who was already fluent in change (having converted from Roman culture to follow Yahweh), immediately obeyed the angel's instruction. We are challenged to stop being a "Peter" and start being a "Cornelius" by obeying immediately.
Declaration
I declare that I will identify and release traditions and habits that prevent me from embracing the change God is calling me to. I choose to walk in immediate obedience and openness, refusing to let resistance or fear of the unknown hinder God's purpose in my life.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I confess that like Peter, I often resist change because of comfort or tradition. Reveal the areas where I am telling You "no" due to fear or reluctance. Give me the spirit of Cornelius, who was ready for change and obeyed Your messenger instantly. Amen.

Day 2: Prioritizing Purpose Over Process
Reflection
Change, while often difficult and sometimes causing anxiety (reported by 45% of people in one survey), is widely acknowledged as necessary for innovation and improvement. Yet, the majority of people are often against it. To navigate necessary change effectively, we must prioritize purpose over process. This means focusing on the ultimate goal rather than being strictly bound by outdated steps or methods. We must always ask the "why" of the change before we focus on the "how" or the "what". The "essence of your mission" serves as the compass guiding us. By focusing on the core value of the mission, we create flexibility that ensures we can adapt to new environments and stay relevant in an ever-changing culture.
Declaration
I declare that I will focus on the purpose and core values of God's mission, not merely the established processes. I acknowledge that change is essential for progress and will allow flexibility in method to achieve God’s goals.
Prayer
Lord, the only constant in life is change. Help me anchor my focus on Your eternal purpose so that I am not distracted by attachment to familiar methods. Grant me the widespread acknowledgement that change is essential, and help me lead with the "why" behind my actions. Amen.

Day 3: Embracing Boldness and Innovation
Reflection
In order for the Church to stay relevant in the current culture, change is necessary. One of the four key areas to help us deal with change is to embrace boldness and innovation. This requires us to be brave enough to try new ideas, understanding that we must be willing to fail. Innovation involves being open to "revelatory ideas that change the status quo". Technology provides a clear example of rapid innovation; consider the massive evolution from the bulky car phone to the modern smartphone or even smartwatches, which now hold more storage and access than the early devices. Just as organizations use a "Change Initiative"—an organized plan to make a big shift, update systems, or change the overall atmosphere to help everyone reach bigger goals—we must adopt a guided effort in our spiritual lives to handle "what's next".
Declaration
I declare that I will embrace boldness and innovation in my spiritual approach. I will be brave enough to try new ideas that challenge the status quo, trusting that this willingness to adapt keeps my faith dynamic and relevant.
Prayer
God, I recognize that 70% of change initiatives fail, yet I ask for the courage to step out regardless of the risk. Inspire me with fresh, revelatory ideas, and give me the openness to adopt new tools and approaches so that I can continually reach bigger goals in ministry and life. Amen.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 4: Cultivating Cultural Awareness
Reflection
A critical step in dealing with change and staying relevant is to cultivate cultural awareness. This involves becoming a student of the culture—gaining insight into diverse worldviews, fostering empathy, and seeking understanding. We cannot afford to shut the culture out; rather, we must understand why the culture is in its current position. Cultivating awareness is not the same as acceptance, but it allows us the ability to "inject" the Gospel message effectively. The sermon warns that without this awareness, we can easily become irrelevant and misunderstand crucial cultural cues. This necessary awareness helps align our practices with the evolving cultural landscape, ensuring that we remain engaged and understandable to those around us.
Declaration
I declare that I will cultivate cultural awareness by becoming a student of the culture. I will actively seek to understand diverse worldviews and evolving cultural trends so that I can remain relevant and effectively engage my community with the Gospel.
Prayer
Lord, grant me wisdom to discern the difference between empathy and acceptance. Help me interact with the culture, reading and hearing about it, so that I understand its current state. Protect me from becoming irrelevant, and give me the knowledge needed to inject Your truth into the evolving cultural landscape. Amen.

Day 5: Connecting Generations and Taking Action
Reflection
The fourth key to dealing with change is to purposefully connect with the younger generation. Engaging with younger people brings fresh perspectives and new ideas, helping to keep our spiritual journey "dynamic and forward thinking". The younger generation is not always wrong simply because they approach things differently. To embrace change in our spiritual journey, we must take tangible steps. The sermon encourages three specific actions:
1. Reflect and Pray: Spend time asking God to reveal areas needing change, letting go of old habits, and embracing new opportunities with faith.
2. Take a Bold Step: Choose a specific action symbolizing change, such as reaching out to someone from a different background, trying a new form of worship, or volunteering in a new ministry.
3. Share Your Journey: Engage a friend or small group to stay accountable and inspired.
Remember, change is not just moving away from the old, but stepping into the new with a heart open to God's leading.
Declaration
I declare that I will connect with the younger generation, welcoming their fresh ideas and perspectives. I commit this week to reflect and pray about needed change, take a bold, specific step to symbolize that growth, and share my journey for accountability and inspiration.
Prayer
Father, thank You for the enthusiasm about change found in a portion of Your people (36% enthusiasm reported in one study). Help me be one of those who is enthusiastic about Your leading. I ask for courage to identify a tradition or habit holding me back, and the resolve to take a bold step this week that testifies to my willingness to grow and adapt. Amen.
